Pocket FM Hits $500M Revenue Run Rate with AI Audio
Audio platform Pocket FM has doubled its annualized revenue run rate to $500 million by using generative AI to produce 93% of its catalog, demonstrating the massive scale of automated media.

Pocket FM, an audio storytelling startup based in Bengaluru and Culver City, California, has reached an annualized revenue run rate of $500 million, up from $250 million a year ago and $430 million in April. This growth is heavily driven by the company's aggressive integration of artificial intelligence. AI now powers 93% of Pocket FM's overall catalog and is used to generate 99% of its new content. Under AI head Vasu Sharma, a former Meta and Tesla scientist, the company has trained proprietary models for creative writing and text-to-speech using years of listener engagement data.
For media practitioners, the economics of this shift are staggering. Pocket FM CEO Rohan Nayak revealed that AI has made content production approximately 80 times cheaper. A block of 100 hours of content, which previously required a year of manual production, can now be completed in a single day. This efficiency has allowed the platform's 550,000 creators to generate about 2.5 million hours of AI-powered content annually, expanding a library that now boasts over 770,000 audio series. Two years ago, the entire catalog stood at just 100,000 hours.
This massive influx of content has directly improved user engagement. Pocket FM's 12-month revenue retention rate surged to 76% from 44% two years ago. The platform now serves over 250 million listeners across more than 20 countries, with the U.S. representing its largest market at 70% of the total run rate after growing 70% over the past year. Of its $500 million run rate, $85 million comes from advertising, while $415 million is generated by users paying to unlock individual episodes. Currently, 96 titles have generated over $1 million each, with 13 crossing the $10 million threshold.
The company's parent, Pocket Entertainment, is already expanding this AI-first model into video. Its three-month-old U.S. microdrama app, Pocket Saga, has reached a $15 million annualized revenue run rate using entirely AI-generated video adapted from successful Pocket FM audio stories. To fund further AI development and expansion into new entertainment formats, the profitable startup is reportedly in talks to raise $100 million to $120 million at a valuation of around $2 billion.
